the rhythm guitar sample is a great improvement
over wizardslayer's last song, and the bass drum rumbles deep into the
chest cavity. the soft lead
patch is reminiscent of the gathering in their
old days. the cymbals are crystaline and the chord progression is entrancing.
some good part writing
was done with the lead line, but the rhythm
loses its flow occasionally with choppy even rhythms. and the song is a
bit top heavy. it needs more of a
bass line to feel totally full, and i was
also kind of looking forward to more vocals. thunder calls kind of inspired
me to start putting vocals in my own
tracks. but overall this is a very nice track
and appeals to the metalhead in all of us.

The first thing I noticed about this song
was that the guitar samples are really good. I also liked the melody and
the way the lead instrument and the
guitar sounded together. Another thing I noticed
was that pattern 1 was repeated at certain points in the song. This produced
a chorus effect and
was also a good ending for the mod. Overall,
I don't think there was anything that I didn't really like about this mod.

Some time ago, I reviewed Wizardslayer first
song on modrev (Thunder calls), so it would be logical to base this review
on a comparison with the
previous one. For Thunder calls I gave 6 for
music. In this song, Victory of the Dragon, there are no vocals to grant
extra points for. Wizardslayer's
new song is again hard rock, but more towards
heavy metal this time (much to my pleasure, because hard rock seems often
not very authentic to
me): faster, with better quitar samples and
really heavy drums. In particular, the bass drum with double pedal and
the hihat are perfect, only crash
could be lower and longer. O.K. I was hevily
hesitating about giving 10 for the first time ever. Victory of the Dragon
is a great hard'n'heavy module,
fullfiling excellently the requirements of
the style. There are no doubts that this song could be played live by a
real band, as Wizardslayer intends to.
Finally, I decided to save the 10 for a less
conventional and more mad tune that might come in the future.

Great samples, great melodies, great riffs!...
so why didn't I give 10. ...
Well... It had some thinggies... for example
in the drums the cymbal was played from too high... but I think that (might)
be the fault of the
instrumnet...
Then I'd liked to hear a looong solo in this
song (with a solo guitar of course). 'cos that would kick ass in this kick
ass song! =)
I like the melody of the "lead instrument"
(metalpad maybe?).
The drums RULZ and the guitar work... and
if I remember right the drums & guitars were "doubled"... somebody
might say it isn't a good thing...
but I think it is!!! the song gets much more
"power" to it... =)
